Mitchell Thomas
Mitchell Thomas is a Remote Sensing Analyst at Floodbase. He works to analyze satellite and modeled data to estimate flood impacts and support parametric insurance. He is a graduate of Columbia University’s School of Engineering with a Bachelor’s of Science (2023) in Applied Mathematics. Previously at Columbia’s International Research Institute for Climate and Society (IRI), he helped develop satellite-based algorithms and validation methods for parametric flood insurance in Bangladesh. At IRI he also led data analysis on projects related to drought parametric insurance and causal study of food supply chains. As a two-time participant in the National Science Foundation’s IRES program (2019, 2022), he conducted international research into water management in Rwanda and Machine Learning control systems in Spain.
